The Western Train The Western Train was built in 1962 as part of a fleet of five Illuminated Feature trams - the Blackpool Belle Paddle steamer, The Rocket, The Hovertram and HMS Blackpool were the others. Not intended for a long life, it nevertheless survived in service until 1999 when it was retired in need of a major rebuild. In 2007 Blackpool Transport was awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore the car to largely original condition, though with the additional feature of wheelchair access in the locomotive and a 1920s interior for the carriage, reflecting its conversion from a 1928 Pantograph car. Work has been undertaken in Blackpool Transport workshops and during totallyTransport you can see how the work progressed through a PowerPoint presentation in Solaris.
